YouTube, these days, has become home to different types of media content. What used to be a platform for long-form original videos has quietly shifted towards being a host of short video content. That’s especially after YouTube thought of catching up with TikTok. Now, YouTube sees a large chunk of viewership from Shorts. Most of it has to do with the ease of random scrolling through infinite video feeds. Since Shorts is popular among viewers nowadays, YouTube keeps testing a few new things, with the latest being the image posts and carousels experiment.
YouTube is experimenting with image carousels and posts that might soon pop on your Shorts feed
YouTube is now officially testing new ways to connect with Posts. In a short update shared on its “test features and experiments” post thread, YouTube confirmed that it is experimenting with showing image posts and carousels in the Shorts feed. Those who use YouTube’s mobile app probably have seen different types of posts in creators’ community tabs. But these posts are not just limited there, as they are sometimes found in your home and subscription feeds.
This time YouTube is being precise with its post placement. YouTube says that the new experiment will help creators connect to their audience in “a new place and with new formats.” So, as a viewer, what exactly should you expect, you might be thinking, right? Well, you might see up to 10 images in a single carousel in your YouTube Shorts feed.
On top of that, those image carousels can have added text overlays posted on images shared by creators. YouTube is also letting creators add royalty-free music from the YouTube Audio Library to image carousels. Creators can generate a soundtrack from Dream Track, though this option is available in limited markets.
The latest experiment is rolling out globally on the mobile app
YouTube further confirms that the experiment around image carousels in Shorts feed is rolling out globally on its mobile app. The Google-owned video streaming platform is not stopping there, as it says, “this is the first of many updates coming to Posts.” If you are a creator in the experiment group, the company wants you to try this out. In case you are a viewer reading things, watch out for these image carousels and posts in your Shorts feeds. They should pop up on your YouTube app soon.
