After launching its in-house SoC, the XRING O1 last year, it’s been widely reported that Xiaomi is working on a successor, allegedly called the XRING O3. A recent leak has revealed its alleged CPU architecture, signaling a major design shift. Ahead of its unveiling at some point this year, more details of Xiaomi’s XRING O3 chip have now surfaced online.
Xiaomi XRING O3 leak suggests major efficiency improvements over XRING O1
Xiaomi’s upcoming XRING O3 will reportedly be built on TSMC’s 3nm node. This is surprising considering both Qualcomm and MediaTek will be ushering in the 2nm era (TSMC’s 2nm N2 node) with their 2026 flagship chips, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 6 and Dimensity 9600/9600 Pro. This means the Xiaomi chip will be a generation behind in the competition.
The chip will technically be a rival to the current Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500. Despite that, the XRING O3 could arrive with significant efficiency gains compared to the previous generation, the XRING O1, as per Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital. He adds the chip will also deliver better performance, especially in the mid to low frequency range.
Could be a generation behind
For context, a previous leak revealed the chip’s redesigned architecture. The company may drop the “bit” core clusters and go with the combination of “Prime, Titanium, and Little Core” configurations. It’ll apparently reach a clock speed of 4.05GHz for the Prime core. Additionally, there will be some GPU improvements in the mix.
While the exact launch timeline of the chip is unclear at the moment, another leak on X (formerly Twitter) claims the announcement may collide with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6/Dimensity 9600 series. There are chances it will arrive before Qualcomm’s announcement, possibly in August. Whenever it arrives, this time Xiaomi’s XRING O3 chip may see wider adoption than the predecessor. The company will reportedly use it in more phones and possibly even power its EVs.
That said, it’s unclear whether the chip will power devices that’ll hit global regions. But Xiaomi does seem to have big plans for future devices. We’ll update when we know more details of Xiaomi’s XRING O3.
