Xiaomi Just Launched Its First Wide Foldable — Here Are the Details

The Xiaomi 18 Fold has been announced, the company’s first wide foldable. This phone comes to compete with the Huawei Pura X Max and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. It will soon face competition from Apple in the form of the upcoming iPhone Ultra.

Xiaomi revealed the design of the phone, along with some details, a couple of days ago. Now we’re looking at a proper announcement of the phone, as it was announced during an event in China.

As you can see, the phone features an asymmetrical cover screen design. The bezels are extremely thin, though, and this asymmetrical approach could be the right one. More on that later.

There is a display camera hole centered on the cover display. The back of the phone is flat, just like the cover display, and there sits a horizontal camera bar with three cameras on the inside. It does protrude a bit on the back.

It comes in four color options

Xiaomi announced four colors, and based on machine translation, these are their names: Black, Ceramic Special Edition, Warm Gold, and Nishino Red. If the phone arrives to global markets, those names will be different, of course.

There is also a camera included on the main display, but it’s located in the top-right corner. The bezels around this display are also thin, plus they’re raised for folding and protection purposes.

The XRING O3 chip fuels the phone; it’s Xiaomi’s brand-new in-house chip. Both 12GB and 16GB RAM models have been announced. All models include UFS 4.1 flash storage, but the RAM is different.

There are both 12GB and 16GB RAM options

The 12GB RAM model comes with LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of storage. The 16GB RAM model is available in both LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 versions. The former comes with 512GB of storage; the latter includes 1TB of storage.

The outer display measures 5.38 inches. It’s an OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The touch sampling rate is 300Hz. The resolution here is 1712 x 1168 pixels. The main display measures 7.58 inches, and it’s an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1672 x 2364 pixels. Its refresh rate goes up to 120Hz, while the touch sampling rate is 240Hz. The peak brightness here is 4,000 nits. UTG glass is included here.

A side fingerprint scanner is included, as it’s built into the power/lock button. A 6,000mAh battery is a part of the package. The phone supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. 50W PPS wired charging is also supported.

It has a compelling camera setup

A 200-megapixel main camera is included with an f/1.7 aperture. OIS is supported here. A 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera is also a part of the package with an f/2.8 aperture, 3.5x optical zoom, 7x optical-quality zoom, and OIS. A 50-megapixel ultrawide camera also sits on the back with an f/2.4 aperture. On the two displays, each camera is a 16MP unit.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold supports dual SIM and USB 3.2 (Type-C). Bluetooth 6.0 is also supported here, as is Wi-Fi 7. HyperOS 4 comes pre-installed, and we assume it’s Android 17 on board, though that is not mentioned in Xiaomi’s spec sheet.

The pricing for the Xiaomi 18 Fold starts at CNY12,999 ($1,937) for the 12GB RAM model with 256GB of storage. If it arrives to global markets, it will be more expensive.
