Usually, one of the ways companies differentiate their smartphone lineups is by giving different models different specs. They might all share the same chipset, but some models might come with more RAM, bigger displays, better cameras, larger batteries, and so on. However, according to the latest leaks, the Xiaomi 18 series, including the Ultra are coming with pretty amazing camera hardware.
Xiaomi 18 series to feature amazing cameras
This is according to a post on X by tipster Kartikey Singh, where they claim that the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max will all pack 200MP main camera sensors. The base model will feature a triple camera setup with a 200MP periscope and a 50MP ultrawide. As for the Pro and Pro Max models, those will share a similar configuration, with a subtle difference with the main sensor.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a 200MP main. However, these are LOFIC cameras, with the Pro Max model getting LOFIC 3.0. This isn’t the first time Singh has talked about camera tech, but it’s nice to have additional details. For those unfamiliar, LOFIC is a camera tech that basically gives each pixel in the sensor a dedicated capacitor that allows it to store excess electrical charge.
This means that even under harsh lighting, which can result in blown-out highlights, the Xiaomi 18’s cameras should still be able to retain sufficient detail. Unfortunately, it seems that Xiaomi could be raising its prices. According to another post by Singh, they claim that the Xiaomi 18 Pro could be priced the same as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could be priced the same as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
Don’t worry, Xiaomi 18 Ultra is still coming
Speaking of the Ultra, what is happening with the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, and is it still coming? The good news is that according to Digital Chat Station, it is. However, it might be delayed slightly and could only launch in 2027. This means that for those who want the Ultra model, you’ll have to wait until next year.
But it might be worth waiting for, especially if the leaks about its cameras are true. In the same post, Digital Chat Station claims that Xiaomi is working on a 1-inch 200MP sensor for the Ultra model. We’re not sure if this is a LOFIC sensor, but a 1-inch sensor is still good news. A larger sensor means better handling of imaging data, more details, and so on.Â
Xiaomi is still one of the few companies around to actually use 1-inch sensors in their phones.
