Last year, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max revived the rear display trend, with up to a 2.9-inch panel. The company added a secondary display to its 2021 flagship, the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. While this year’s Xiaomi 18 Pro is rumored to retain the rear display, a new leak claims the panel may see a size upgrade.
Xiaomi 18 Pro will reportedly feature a bigger rear display
According to Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu, the Xiaomi 18 Pro’s rear screen will allegedly measure 4 inches diagonally. If this pans out, it’ll be a significant upgrade over the current 2.7- and 2.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED rear screens on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. With such a large screen, the company may introduce additional features and use cases. Reports note that Xiaomi will bring in some AI-powered smarts for its rear display.
The leak adds that the display won’t just be large; it’s also expected to be brighter and offer a higher resolution than the Xiaomi 17 Pro’s. The rear panel will reportedly have large rounded corners.
Additionally, the leak also mentions “privacy protection,” possibly hinting at something like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s privacy display. But there are chances this could be for the Xiaomi 18 Pro’s main screen and not the rear panel. But it’s just an assumption.
There’s also a mention of privacy protection
We’re curious to see Xiaomi’s implementation of privacy display. For some context, it’s a built-in privacy feature that narrows the screen’s viewing angle so the person beside you can’t really see what’s on the screen. The content stays visible mainly from the front. Users don’t really need to install privacy screen protectors for this.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max may debut in September this year. But we doubt whether these will expand globally. This is considering Xiaomi only unveils the vanilla and the Ultra versions outside of China. Let’s see if there will be any change in plans this year.
