There was a special Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition in China alongside the standard version. Clearing doubts about its global debut, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition was certified outside of China, but with a different Leica Leitzphone branding. A leak from earlier this week also reiterated this. Well, Xiaomi is taking things into its own hands and is now making things official.

Xiaomi’s Spanish X/Twitter account has posted a new teaser, which confirms the “Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi” branding. The phone will debut alongside the Xiaomi 17 series in Barcelona, Spain, on February 28th at 2 PM local time. This means a total of three phones will debut at the venue. The Leica Leitzphone is likely to share a similar specs sheet as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition.
However, the leak from earlier this week suggested subtle design differences. For one, the dual-tone design is gone in favor of a dark gray shade. The Leica branding above the huge circular camera module and the camera hardware engraving inside the circular module are rotated by 90 degrees. This is also evident from the official teaser image.
Similar hardware, subtle design changes
The Leica Leitzphone may retain the mechanical zoom ring to offer a DSLR-like zoom control. As for the internal hardware, it’s likely to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC and a 6.9-inch 2K AMOLED display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The phone may house a large 6,800mAh battery with 90W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
Photography will be the main focus here. The phone offers a 50MP 1-inch Light Fusion 1050L sensor, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with continuous optical zoom between 75mm and 100mm, and a 50MP ultrawide lens with autofocus. For selfies, you also have a 50MP sensor.
The Geekbench AI listing revealed it may get a 16GB RAM option, but there could be other options at launch. The phone may boot Android 16 OS out of the box. When compared to the standard Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the Leica Edition model offers special Leica color science and filters, and that mechanical zoom ring we spoke of.
