Mythic Achievements for the Xbox platform have officially been revealed and launched as part of the Xbox Insider program, which means that they’re on their way to reaching all Xbox owners in the near future. Mythic Achievements made their unofficial debut a little bit earlier this year when they were discovered in the Xbox app.
This allowed users to see what they looked like, in addition to their accompanying animation and sound that plays when you acquire one. The mythic achievements are essentially the Xbox equivalent of the PlayStation platinum trophy, and is positioned as a way to showcase your dedication to acquiring every achievement a game has to offer, which often comes along with significant challenges. In other words, the mythic achievements are a form of bragging rights.
Mythic achievements are retroactive
One question that players had when these started popping up back around September 23 was whether or not mythic achievements would be retroactive. The answer to that is yes according to Xbox. In its official Xbox Wire post about the achievements arriving, the Xbox team says that “Mythic Achievements have already been added to eligible games you completed in the past, including XBOX 360 titles. So, the next time you visit your profile, you may discover that some of your favorite games have already reached Mythic status.”
That means there’s a good chance some of your games will already have mythic achievements tied to them. Users will be able to see their achievements from each game on a new gaming tab that’s visible on their profiles, too. On the gaming tab, you can see the list of games with their associated gamer score and clicking on a game brings up the list of specific achievements.
Xbox is also making it simple for users to see how close they are to acquiring a mythic achievement. This will be visible through a new progress bar that lists the achievements you’ve already acquired, and assigns a percentage to that list so you can see your overall progress toward the mythic. As noted, these are available to Xbox Insiders starting today.
