Xbox Game Pass is due for a price reduction, if a new rumor circulating on gaming forum ResetEra is to be believed. This would be the second price reduction since new Xbox Head Asha Sharma took over for Phil Spencer earlier in 2026. Last year, prices on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate had been increased to a whopping $29.99 a month. Call of Duty was added as a day-one game. When Sharma took over, Call of Duty was quickly removed as a day-one game, and she decreased the price of the Ultimate tier down to $22.99.
A new rumor on ResetEra suggests that in the coming months, Microsoft is planning to push that price down further, and set Game Pass Ultimate to $19.99. The Ultimate tier has been at this price before, but the reduction to $19.99 now and the $19.99 price back then is significantly different in a couple of key ways.
The Xbox Game Pass price reduction is said to come with two big caveats
A price reduction on Xbox Game Pass is something that subscribers have been asking for since the price went up to $30 last year. If the rumor on ResetEra is accurate, then players will be getting their wish in the near future. That being said, the rumor, which comes from user Slayven, states that Microsoft will be removing two big features as part of the change.
The first is that no new games will be day-one games anymore. Not just Call of Duty. The other is that Microsoft will be removing the cloud gaming function, and instead will shift it into a separate add-on that you have to pay for. According to the rumor, the cloud gaming price as an add-on will be $5.99 and will net you 25 hours of time.
As for pricing on Game Pass, the $19.99 model will be a no-ads tier that also has an annual price of $239.99. An ad-supported tier is said be part of the change as well, with a monthly price set at $12.99.
