The incomparable 1992 McLaren F1 has spent much of its existence being showered with flowery adjectives, unalloyed praise, and plain old hero worship. Thirty-seven years later, it remains one of the most iconic vehicles ever produced. Gordon Murray’s vision of building the ultimate road-legal driver’s car made it so much more accomplished than anything else out there that it took another one of Murray’s own creations to surpass it decades later. In subjective terms, anyway.
