It had a 5.3-inch display, which was massive for that time, when the tech world invented a new term for it: “phablet.” These days, phones are packing screens close to 7-inches, so when a manufacturer starts making phones smaller than that, we’re calling it “compact.” Well, now the specs of the next Vivo compact flagship have leaked, and here’s what we can expect.
Vivo X500 compact flagship specs leaked
According to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, the specs of the next Vivo compact flagship have leaked. While we don’t know the name of the device yet, it is largely speculated that this could be the Vivo X500, the successor to the X300 series. If you’re wondering what happened to the X400 series, the number four is largely considered bad luck in Chinese culture. That is why Vivo is most likely skipping the X400 in favor of the X500.
As for the specs, the leak suggests that it will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chipset. This will be MediaTek’s first 2nm chipset, so it makes sense that Vivo would want to use it. Especially with Qualcomm expected to debut its own 2nm chipset later this year. The phone is also rumored to pack a smaller 6.37-inch display, while packing a 50MP 1/1.28-inch sensor with LOFIC support. It will be accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide and a 64MP periscope telephoto.
That being said, it should be noted that these specs are apparently for the “Pro” model. We’re not sure how different the non-Pro model will be, but we’ll have to wait and find out.
When is it coming?
So far, we do not have a release date on when the Vivo X500 series will be announced. Right now, it is speculated that it could be released this September. That actually makes sense. The Vivo X300 phones were launched back in October 2025, so a September launch seems about right.
Interestingly enough, September is also when Apple plans to debut the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and Ultra smartphones. We have to wonder if Vivo is choosing that date in hopes of stealing some of Apple’s spotlight.
