The Steam Machine launch date isn’t something that Valve has officially announced but that isn’t stopping some online super sleuths from digging around and trying to figure out when it arrives anyway. According to a post on Reddit, Valve has apparently added the “Welcome to Steam Machine” welcome tour has now shown up on GitHub. What’s more is that it has surfaced in multiple different languages, and that is leading people to believe that Valve may be looking to launch the Steam Machine as early as this week, possibly on June 4.
It’s worth noting that this is hardly conclusive evidence that the Steam Machine is launching this week. However, there is something to keep in mind with this whole thing. The last time details like this popped up were with the Steam Controller. Just before it actually launched, there were leaks like this one that showed up. The Steam Machine Welcome Tour also surfaced in Steam’s backend in May, so the new detail here is that multiple languages have now been added. Hence the suspicion that Valve is getting ready for the release.
The Steam Machine launch date could be this week
If the Steam Machine launched this week, there would be a bunch of potentially excited fans ready to get their hands on one. It’s worth noting of course that a true launch likely isn’t coming until a little later. Meaning that Valve could open pre-orders for the Steam Machine this week but it might not ship right away. That being said, Valve did start shipping the Steam Controller pretty soon after it went up for sale on May 4. So there’s a chance people could have their units by the weekend.
This is all assuming that Valve even launches the hardware this week. It’s worth remembering, too, that Valve hasn’t announced an official price either. And that will most likely happen before it puts the Steam Machine up for sale. With regard to the price, it’s bound to be expensive at this point. Recent rumors have suggested that the price internally had sky rocketed well beyond what Valve was thinking of setting for it prior to the memory crisis. It also confirmed that the price did have to be revisited because of that. Then there’s the recent price increase of the Steam Deck OLED, which now costs $949 for the 1TB model. Whatever the cost, there will still be people that pick it up.
