The Steam Controller has received a sort of secret unboxing video that was found on SteamDB recently, and it has some suspecting that Valve could be preparing to launch the controller and make it available for purchase.
Valve officially announced the Steam Controller alongside its Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset last year. The second controller from Valve is tailor-made for the Steam Machine but it can also be used as a controller for Windows PCs, much like the last one. Valve hasn’t officially said anything about a launch date. Given the confirmation about a push back for the Steam Machine launch, however, it was probably assumed the controller would be pushed back as well. That might not be the case.

Steam Controller unboxing video could signify a launch is just around the corner
While Valve could simply be getting this video listing into the system well ahead of when it’s ready to make it watchable, the suspicion is that Valve plans to launch the controller very soon, and that’s why the video listing is showing up in SteamDB.
If Valve does plan to launch the Steam Controller soon, the next question is, does Valve plan to launch this as a standalone product way ahead of the Steam Machine? Or will the Steam Machine be just around the corner as well?
Both seem like plausible scenarios, but there’s nothing to really signify either one. All that’s known for now is that the Steam Machine, and probably the Steam Frame, aren’t launching when Valve initially planned. This was mostly due to the RAM and storage shortage that is causing price increases on consumer electronics. Valve said it would also have to revisit its planned price for the hardware. Valve didn’t announce a price for the new Steam Controller either, but it’s possible the price will be higher than what Valve initially planned for this product as well.
