The Steam Machine launch window is something that prospective buyers have been eagerly awaiting to learn after Valve delayed it following the memory crisis. Up until this point Valve had only said that it would be coming in the second half of 2026. That sounds a lot like it would be launching more toward the holiday season, but that isn’t the case. Valve has now confirmed a much closer launch window for the Steam Machine, which is sure to make a lot of potential buyers happy. That is of course, if the price is right.
Another detail that Valve has been pretty tight-lipped on is the price. About the only thing that’s clear when it comes to cost is that it won’t be cheap. While hopes have run high that it would be a more affordable living room PC option, mainly because Steam Deck was priced pretty well when it launched, the memory crisis had other plans. Valve has not only had to delay the Steam Machine, it had to revisit the price. It then increased the price on the Steam Deck to $949 for the 1TB OLED model. A full $300 more than its original price. Per a rumor following this price increase, it’s suspected that the Steam Machine surpassed $949 some time ago.
The Steam Machine launch window is now Summer 2026
You may be like most people and may have completely missed Valve’s confirmation on the new Summer 2026 launch window. And if you did, that’s because Valve didn’t come out and post an actual announcement about the launch window specifically. On June 4, it put out a post about the updated Steamworks Development Verified Program for Steam Machine and Steam Frame.
While this post is more about informing developers how they can prepare their games for these new pieces of hardware, Valve starts of by saying that Steam Machine and Steam Frame are shipping this Summer. That isn’t super specific, but it’s more specific than before. There’s still no price or an exact date. But it likely won’t be long before Valve confirms those things as well.
