According to data from Counterpoint Research, it appears that the Galaxy S26 series is outperforming the Galaxy S25 series, in the same time frame. That’s pretty impressive, if we’re quite honest. Especially given all the criticism Samsung received on the Galaxy S26 series.
For the week of March 8 through March 14, smartphone sales in the US grew about 24% week-over-week, or 3% year-over-year. And it was Samsung that drove that increase. Of course, they did; that was just a week after the Galaxy S26 series was officially available to purchase.
Data from Counterpoint shows that the Galaxy S26 lineup sales were about 29% higher year-over-year in the same period, with the Galaxy S26 Ultra leading the way. This accounted for 71% of the Galaxy S sales, up from 61% on the Galaxy S25 Ultra last year.

What drove this big change for Samsung?
There are a couple of things that could have driven more people to the Galaxy S26 Ultra this year, versus last year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. A big one is likely the rising costs of RAM and storage. Many people are buying their phones now, before prices go up.
Samsung has also been offering some pretty sweet deals in the past, but not as much this year. Like the double, your storage upgrade was not available in the US. But something that likely drew a lot of people to Samsung this year was the Privacy Display. This allows you to keep your display private from nosy people around you.
In the US, the carriers really do a lot of the heavy lifting for smartphone makers. Offering really great deals for buyers, as well as doing a lot of advertising, which definitely helped Samsung. But seeing how much of a success the Galaxy S26 series is this year, it really makes you wonder if we phone nerds really know what we’re talking about.
