Finally, after an extended delay, the Trump Mobile T1 Phone started shipping out to customers and was made available for purchase back in June. Given its specs, the $499 price tag already felt pretty hefty, but it’s not getting any better. It now appears that the Trump Phone has gotten a price hike, and a substantial one at that.
Trump Phone just got a hefty price hike
Like we said earlier, when the phone went on sale, it was priced at $499. That was honestly quite a hard sell given that it wasn’t the most impressive phone. But now, it’s gotten a lot more expensive because, according to the listing on its website, the Trump Phone got a $250 price hike. This means that instead of it costing you $499, it now costs a whopping $749.
But what was the reason behind the price increase? Well, for starters, the original $499 price tag might have actually been a promo price. According to The Verge, when they spoke to two Trump Mobile executives earlier this year, they called the price “introductory.” This suggested that its full and original price could be released later.
Alternatively, the ongoing memory crisis could be to blame as well. As you might have heard, AI companies are snapping up all the memory they can get their hands on. As a result, the price of regular memory went up due to the shortage. We’ve already seen companies like Apple increase their prices, so this price hike isn’t entirely surprising either.
Should you buy it?
At $749, it’s hard to recommend anyone to buy this phone. Perhaps the only “good” thing going for it would be its memory. It comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. But beyond that, we’re not sure if the rest of the specs make their price tag justifiable.
For starters, an earlier teardown revealed that the phone is basically a repainted version of the HTC U24 Pro released in 2024. It features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. You’ll also find a triple camera setup on the back. This consists of a 50MP main, a 50MP telephoto, and an 8MP ultrawide. There’s a 50MP front-facing camera to round things off.
It’s hardly the worst phone, but at $749, there are better alternatives. This includes the iPhone 17e and the Galaxy S26 FE.
