Apple is getting ready to shake up the smart home space. Ahead of an expected October 13 product reveal titled “Welcome Home,” leaker Jon Prosser shared detailed 3D renders showing what Apple’s long-rumored smart display could look like in real life.
Based on early reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the renders point to a fun, retro-inspired look. The hardware features a square screen floating over a rounded base, looking almost identical to the famous iMac G4 from 2002. While earlier rumors hinted at separate desk and wall versions, Prosser’s renders show a single clever design that sits on a flat counter or clips right onto a wall.
Personalized screens without expensive Face ID sensors
Informally called the “HomePad,” this upcoming hub focuses on making family life at home a bit smoother. The display reportedly skips full, expensive Face ID hardware, but built-in cameras and microphones will still identify individual household members using simple facial cues and voice recognition.
When you walk up to the device, it automatically updates the display to show your personal schedule, family reminders, favorite photo albums, and music picks. Built-in Siri AI features will also let you adjust smart lights, check security feeds, and run home routines completely hands-free without picking up your iPhone.
A bigger home hardware drop is on the way
Don’t expect a massive, live-streamed keynote for this announcement. Sources indicate Apple plans to launch these products through a pre-recorded YouTube video on October 13, saving new MacBook reveals for a separate announcement later in the month.
The smart display won’t be flying solo either. Rumors suggest Apple will refresh its broader home ecosystem at the same time. A newer Apple TV 4K box and long-awaited replacements for the six-year-old HomePod mini speakers are expected to drop alongside the hub, giving Apple fans a complete lineup refresh for their living rooms.
