The White House has finally addressed a remnant of the AI era.
On Tuesday, the Trump administration rolled out si.gov, giving a new URL to the site that was first launched during the Biden administration. The new site describes President Donald Trump‘s artificial intelligence policies, though much of the text itself was changed before Tuesday.
“The Super Intelligence era is here. 🇺🇸,” Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, wrote on X.
The new address falls in line with Trump’s wishes that artificial intelligence, or AI, now be called super intelligence, or SI. The president formalized his preference in a September 29 executive order.
Last week, Trump declared that if others did not go along with his rebrand, they would be considered an “enemy” of his White House. The president has said that using the term “artificial intelligence” makes the technology sound fake.
AI and tech leaders have split over how to handle Trump’s request.
Over the weekend, SpaceXAI followed through on SpaceX CEO Elon Musk‘s promise to rebrand the company’s AI division as SpaceXSI.
On Saturday, days after Trump bestowed an honor on him, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella published a lengthy statement titled: “Models as Insider Risks in the Super Intelligence Era.” AI and artificial intelligence were not among the 805 words Nadella wrote.
As for OpenAI, whose name contains the very abbreviation Trump wants gone, its CEO, Sam Altman, previously ruled out a rebrand.
“No plans to do that,” Altman told the Politico Decoded podcast. “But we have been talking about super intelligence a lot, and we will continue to talk about it.”
