Sennheiser is back with its newest pair of Momentum wireless headphones in the Momentum 5, and as you’d expect there are some notable upgrades to audio and more without changing everything that made the previous pair great. The design is one thing that is staying the same for now, because Sennheiser only just changed it with the Momentum 4. It is tweaking that design just a little, however, which you can see from the very subtle adjustments made to the ear cups.
A lot of the changes will come from under the hood, so to speak. For example, the Sennheiser Momentum 5 will introduce improved ANC. The ANC was decent enough on past pairs, but there are now four mics on each side, so more of that background noise will be blocked while your voice is picked up better for people on the other end of calls or voice chats. This should help it compete with the Sony WH-1000XM6. There’s now Dolby Atmos support and head tracking for spatial audio. Sennheiser is also making a big change to the battery.
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 headphones will allow you to replace the battery
Batteries don’t last forever, that’s a fact, but Sennheiser is doing what it can to ensure that users of the Momentum 5 are getting something that they won’t have to stress over too much. For starters, the battery life on a single charge is up to 57 hours. That’s with ANC enabled, Sennheiser says. Which is a heck of a long time for a single charge.
Beyond that, though, the battery is user-replaceable and won’t need to be taken to a service center. So if the battery does actually need to be physically replaced, you’ll be able to get to it yourself which is very consumer-friendly. You don’t get that kind of treatment from all manufacturers, so this is great. As for cost and launch timing, Sennheiser is charging $399 for these new headphones. The Momentum 4 launched at $349. That’s a $50 jump. Given the upgrades, it seems reasonable. You’ll also be able to grab these on June 16.
