As the RAM and SSD shortage continues to make it nearly impossible to find components, or at least at reasonable prices, Micro Center doesn’t appear to be having any problems with inventory whatsoever. At least at one store in particular.
If you’ve been living under a rock or you’ve simply been away from the keyboard for several months, RAM module and SSD prices are at an all-time high thanks to AI data centers scooping up as much inventory as they can. This has left manufacturers with far lower inventory numbers than usual, and that has in large part led to increased prices of those components, as supply in most cases remains low while demand is high.
This has led to all sorts of issues, naturally, with many people being priced out as they can’t afford what these components now cost. For example, a three-year old Samsung SSD now costs over $600 for a 2TB model. An SSD that was well under $200 6 months ago, and t its absolute lowest was available for $120. Prices have skyrocketed, and it isn’t getting better anytime soon. Analysts are predicting the shortage and these sorts of prices could stick around for years (hopefully not, for the love of god). But where low inventory has struck at the heart of some retailers, Micro Center seems to be flourishing at this store.
On Micro Center store has loads of inventory of RAM and SSDs but high prices remain
Just because Micro Center has a lot of available stock of these components, it doesn’t mean Micro Center is going to be slashing prices. On the contrary, it’s following market trends and in the footsteps of all other retailers and pricing things exceedingly high. That’s to be expected, of course. As it’s likely paying high prices as well straight from the manufacturer. So retailer and consumer alike are stuck in this perpetual, volatile loop of fluctuating inventory availability and exorbitant prices.
As Wccftech notes, a user on Reddit has shared images of their local Micro Center stocked full to the gills with SSD storage and RAM kits. Just in case you’re in the mood to basically withdraw some cash from your bank account and set it on fire, you can head to Micro Center right now and grab a 2TB Samsung 9100 Pro for $680. Sounds tempting, right?
The really good news is that if you can hold out until Black Friday, you might be treated with a sale that brings the price down to near the launch MSRP.
