Google’s Pixel Recorder app can be a useful tool when you need to take down all of the context of something being said, like classroom lectures or meetings, but accessing those recordings from something like the Files app isn’t possible, which adds a layer of complexity to moving those recordings around as well as sharing them with others if the need for that arises.
Instead, to access the recordings you have two options. You can play them straight from the Pixel Recordings app, or you can download them using the Android Share sheet. Google is reportedly going to simplify this process by letting you access the recordings from the Files by Google app.
Pixel Recorder audio files being accessible from the Files app is already being worked on
According to the report from Android Authority, which recently dug into the files of the Pixel Recordings app version 4.2.2, Google is working on letting users enable a toggle from the app’s settings that will turn on access in outside apps like Files by Google, or in the case of phones from other manufacturers, whatever main file explorer that phone uses.
There is currently no mention of a launch date or even a launch timeline. But with this feature available, users would be able to get to those recordings directly from their phone’s file explorer app without having to do any extra download steps. Once enabled, future recordings are saved in a Recordings folder, but it’s also still going to be possible to access the recordings from the actual Pixel Recorder app if users prefer to keep things this way.
Following the minor change of the Pixel Recorder icon that started rolling out in the middle of August, this upcoming change adds some tangible utility for users, whenever Google decides to launch it.
