After much hype and many leaks, DJI has finally unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4. The successor to the wildly popular Osmo Pocket 3. And before you get your hopes up, it won’t be available in the US at launch due to the pending FCC authorization. It should launch a bit later in the US.
The biggest upgrade you’ll likely see with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is going to be that larger 1-inch CMOS sensor on the camera itself. This brings a serious boost to the camera overall, along with video capabilities, bringing the Osmo Pocket 4 closer to the “pro” territory.
DJI has included video at up to 4K resolution and 240fps. This isn’t something you normally see on a camera this small, and it opens the door for some really smooth slow-motion footage. DJI is also leaning heavily into image quality this time around. Including 14 stops of dynamic range and 10-bit D-Log. It also has an f/2.0 aperture, which is going to make the Osmo Pocket 4 incredible in low-light situations.
Better stabilization, more customization, better battery life
Stabilization is a core part of the experience for the Osmo Pocket 4. It has a built-in three-axis gimbal, making this great for walking videos, vlogs, and even livestreaming. In fact, at CES and MWC earlier this year, you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing a ton of the Osmo Pocket 3.
DJI has added a dedicated zoom button, a customizable preset button, and a new 5D joystick for better control and stability.
The biggest upgrade here is actually storage. On the Osmo Pocket 3, there’s no usable storage for the user. So you can’t take any photos or videos without a micro SD card inserted. With the Osmo Pocket 4, there is 107GB of on-board storage, and it has transfer speeds of up to 800MB/s.
Finally, let’s talk battery life. DJI says that you’ll get about two hours of recording in 1080p resolution, and there’s also fast charging that gets you 80% in just 18 minutes.
DJI has not yet announced pricing and availability, but don’t expect this one to be cheap. As the Osmo Pocket 3 was $519 at launch, and that was 3 years ago, well before a lot of the current inflation we have.
