As we get closer to Qualcomm launching the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (or whatever they decide to call it this year, we’re hearing a “Pro” model is in the works too), that means we’re getting closer to the OnePlus 16. And now new rumors are starting to surface about the new flagship from OnePlus.
According to OnePlus Club on X, who is also citing Smart Pickachu on Weibo, the OnePlus 16 will sport a 200-megapixel primary camera, and a 50-megapixel periscope lens. The Periscope lens would likely remain at 3x, as it has been for the past few years on OnePlus and OPPO flagship devices.
This shows that OnePlus is continuing to cement its place as a performance flagship, which is where the company really pivoted to with the OnePlus 15 late last year.
OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a mighty impressive smartphone
Specs for the upcoming OnePlus 16 had already leaked about a month ago. The OnePlus 16 specs leak indicated that we should see the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip inside, with LPDDR6 RAM and a 9,000mAh capacity battery. Which is just obsurd when you consider the fact that Samsung is still offering a 5,000mAh capacity battery on the Galaxy S26 Ultra this year.
Of course, this shouldn’t be a surprise, since OnePlus has always been all about offering the best specs available in its flagship devices.
But the real question is, where will this device launch? We’ve heard rumors that OnePlus could shut down in some regions – specifically the US and in India. So this could end up being a China-only smartphone. Which wouldn’t surprise us, given how little market share they have in those two markets. Their market share in India has really crashed in the last couple of years.
