The recent update for the month of September that was sent out to Pixel devices earlier this month is reportedly having lock screen issues for some users. The update isn’t affecting all Pixel device owners, but those that are affected report having problems with the lock screen unlocking when trying to input patterns or PIN numbers.
The Pixel phones have had their fair share of bugs this year. Back in early September people started reporting issues with the Pixel 11 having problems staying connected to Wi-Fi. Back in July there was a string of reported issues with the battery draining too quickly, which Google said was fixed in a late July update, despite users continuing to report the problem.
All the way back in May there were issues with the eSIM. Many of the issues that have been popping up for Pixel owners since the start of the year have reportedly been fixed with Android 17 beta 4.1, though this wasn’t addressing every bug as some had been fixed and others were still being worked on. With this latest bug, people are simply having trouble unlocking their devices.
A new Pixel bug is causing issues with the lock screen
According to a report from Phone Arena, some users of Pixel phones are unable to unlock their device because the bug is causing an immediate rejection of the unlock method. This is said to be affecting users of the Pixel 10 Pro XL and at least one user reported the issue on a Pixel 8a. There is no mention of other Pixel device models so far.
According to one user with the issue, the bug caused a failure on the unlock after one digit of the PIN was entered. Another said that the pattern unlock method would reset the pattern after only two dots were connected. The user then also mentions that a factory reset was seemingly the only thing that would let them bypass this issue. As of right now this issue doesn’t appear to have been acknowledged by Google, and there’s currently no official fix for it.
