In the latest iOS 27 beta that launched this week, Siri AI is now able to pull info from third-party apps, but not all third-party apps. So far, the only examples we’re seeing are with the Tesla and Ford apps, allowing users to ask Siri to check their car’s battery level (specifically for EVs in Ford’s case).
The way it works is that Siri AI has to ask for your permission to connect to the app and pull the requested data; then it’s able to get the data and provide it to you.
This is a really useful feature for Siri AI and does put it ahead of Gemini. As Gemini can really only pull from Google apps right now. This is also likely why Siri AI is indexing your information again with the iOS 27 Beta 3 that launched on Monday.
The Android Headlines Take
This is what I like to call an example of ‘Useful AI’. Imagine you’re about to go out on a longer drive, and need to check your car’s battery level or fuel level if you don’t drive an EV. Just ask Siri to check it for you. And then you can go a step further and ask Siri to check the Chargepoint or Electrify America app for chargers that are available nearby. There are countless other examples here too, but as an EV driver myself, this is a really big deal.
Developers likely need to add support for Siri AI to be able to do this, and to be honest, some might be hesitant. This means users will spend less time in their app, since they can use Siri to do a lot of the heavy lifting now. But if Apple could do this for all apps, without developer input, that would make this feature a lot more useful.
