The iPhone 18 is set to be released next Spring, not this Fall with the ‘Pro’ models. Apple had been planning to switch up its iPhone release schedule starting with this cycle, which is why the iPhone 17 saw such a huge upgrade last year. But the iPhone 18 might be getting a pretty big one as well.
According to a leak out of China, the iPhone 18 is set to get another big RAM increase to 12GB. That’s up from the 8GB on the iPhone 17 and 6GB on the iPhone 16 just two years ago. This is a pretty big deal, but it was also pretty much confirmed after WWDC last week. You see, any phone with less than 12GB of RAM is not getting the full Siri experience. Which means the iPhone 17 is missing out, while the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max get it.
As if that wasn’t a good enough upgrade, the report also notes that Apple is not expected to raise prices on the iPhone 18. Meaning that you could get double the RAM and double the storage compared to the iPhone 16 for the same $799 price. That is really impressive, especially with how RAM prices are going these days.
iPhone 18 could blow away the Pixel 11 and Galaxy S27
Both the Pixel 11 and Galaxy S27 will be priced similar to the iPhone 18 (unless Google and Samsung raise prices this year), and if true, the iPhone 18 could blow them away. Not only matching them on RAM and storage – or in Google’s case, potentially beating them in both if the rumors are correct. But also beating them in the overall value of the phone they’re selling.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely still be Apple’s top-seller, as it is every year, but the iPhone 18 could come closer than ever before.
