The world of AI smart glasses is about to expand by one more product as Halliday is announcing the new G2, its second-generation AI smart glasses, built around this idea that glasses should not only be functional and appropriate for the workplace, but also fashionable so that people actually want to ear them in public. The G2 are “set within stylish frames designed to feel as natural on a fashion runway as they do in a boardroom,” Halliday says.
The new Halliday G2 smart glasses debuted on July 21, and while they don’t feature a camera like Meta’s ever-popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, they still offer plenty of features for users to take advantage of. Halliday has confirmed a wide variety of functions including on-display conversational intelligence using what the company is calling DigiWindow. DigiWindow, Halliday says, is a near-eye lens-free display technology that will “make real-time intelligence clearer, brighter and more naturally integrated into everyday eyewear.” In other words, Halliday wants the G2 to be just another part of your wardrobe every day and not just another electronic device you’re using.
The Halliday G2 smart glasses don’t have a camera, but this also improves battery life
Longer battery life isn’t the main reason Halliday didn’t include a camera in the G2. It is, however, a bonus. Not having the camera contributes to the longer lifespan of the internal battery for the G2 between charge cycles. The company says users can take the glasses through 12+ hours of use before they need to be plugged in.
Battery aside, the main reason that these glasses don’t come with a camera is because Halliday designed them to be more suitable across a plethora of scenarios for security and privacy reasons. Including being appropriate for professional settings as well as being more socially acceptable in places where “recording devices might be unwelcome,” the company says.
Other features include ‘Cheatsheet.’ which is essentially a teleprompter mode that keeps important details in view, such as notes, reminders, or other information you might want in front of you. The glasses also support translation in over 45 languages. The Halliday G2 is “expected to retail for $599,” with a pre-sale starting on July 21. Interested customers will need a $10 deposit to secure a pair, but that will also net them a $100 discount on the final price. These are set to start shipping to buyers in September of this year.
