The map size of GTA 6 has already been talked about officially on some scale by developers at Rockstar Games. For instance, Rockstar has already confirmed that the size o the map would twice that of GTA 5. However, that doesn’t really hone in on the true scope of the map’s available play area, of which players will need to explore to really find all of the game’s hidden and interesting secrets, as the campaign will not take them to every corner.
Speaking recently in an interview with Edge Magazine, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has shed some light on just how big the map is really going to be. And based on his comments, it’s going to be a gargantuan play space that will give the game some heavy replay value as players dive into every nook and cranny. Rockstar also states that tit wanted to go for more of a sandbox-type experience than before, so the sense of scale needed to be bigger.
The GTA 6 map size, by way of land mass, will be bigger than GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined
According to Nelson, it’s not just the actual map size that will make the playable space so huge. It’s the land mass, which Nelson says will be bigger than GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. He also talks about the building interiors, which helps to increase the overall playable space as there will be more buildings that players can go into and explore in addition to the outside locales. Compared to GTA 5, GTA 6 will have “an order of magnitude more interiors,” says co-development lead Aaron Garbut.
Each building also reportedly has a unique feel with “signs of NPC’s” that give the feel of a home or building being lived in. The idea being that there’s more of a sense of realism to these locations. GTA 6 will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles on November 19, with a PC release rumored to come out six to seven months later.
