It turns out that the microphone on the Galaxy S27 Ultra is indeed in the camera array; who would have thought.
In some of the protective cases Ice Universe has been posting lately, the microphone hole appears to be missing. Which is a major oversight; hopefully those cases are fixed before they go on sale early next year. Onleaks clarified that the microphone sits below the 5x telephoto lens and above the other sensors and flash, to the right of the two main sensors (wide and ultrawide). This is according to his sources. Things could change, but at this point, I highly doubt it.
The microphone is always next to the cameras
This isn’t much of a surprise, since microphones need to be close to the cameras; otherwise, it can really mess up the sound quality in the videos you’re taking. And including it in that black oval there makes the most sense.
Though I do find it hard to believe that case makers won’t just make a hole for the entire camera module instead of covering the laser autofocus sensor and the flash.
Samsung is set to announce the Galaxy S27 series early next year, likely in either January or February. So while it still seems pretty far away right now, many of the hardware choices have already been made. We expect the Galaxy S27 series to use the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which was announced in Maui last week. The Galaxy S27 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The Galaxy S27 Pro is still up in the air, but given its smaller form factor, I’d expect it to use the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Either way, we’ll know for sure in a few months.
