GTA 6 getting a physical copy is perhaps the gaming side of the internet’s biggest request for Rockstar and Take-Two. Back on June 24, Rockstar confirmed the price for GTA 6. It was one of the few remaining details about the game that fans wanted to know. After months of dancing around the figure, Take-Tow and Rockstar have landed on a price of $80. This will be for the standard edition of the game. There will also be an ultimate edition that costs $100.
Given the likely scope of GTA 6 and the many, many hundreds of hours gamers will inevitably dump into it, $80 seems like a fair price. That being said, there is one big issue GTA 6 fans are facing right now. $80 gets you a digital download of the game. Not a physical disc version of the game. The $100 ultimate edition is no different. So what about a physical copy of the game? Rockstar had said it would be coming out with physical copies later on following the game’s launch on November 19. But it’s not what you think. The cake is a lie, and so is the GTA 6 physical copy.
GTA 6 won’t be getting a true physical copy of the game
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, GTA 6 won’t be getting a true physical version. Instead, it’ll be getting a case with a digital download code inside. When fans saw that “physical versions” would be released later, naturally, they assumed this meant there would be an actual disc they could pop into their consoles. That is seemingly not going to be the case.
According to the report, no actual discs for GTA 6 will be printed. Rockstar and Take-Two are said to currently have no plans for disc versions of the game. This hasn’t been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. So take it with a grain of salt. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if this turns out to be true.
Game companies have been moving toward digital versions since last generation of consoles. With the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo unveiled the infamous Game Key Cards. Games masquerading as cartridges which are actually just a physical piece of hardware you slot into your Switch 2 that then allow you to download the game. So, it’s just a glorified digital download. Rockstar could go this route, but that wouldn’t really change things.
