The attention Buc-ee’s has received from World Cup tourists is widespread. What used to be a regional phenomenon has spread beyond Texas and, for that matter, the United States. The stores pack much more into their building footprint than convenience goods and gas pumps. They are typically larger than most supermarkets. They tout that they have the world’s largest convenience store, in Luling, Texas: 75,500 square feet.
The first store opened just south of Houston in 1982, and now there are over 50, mostly located along Sunbelt highways and freeways. The company just announced it will open stores in San Marcos in 2026 and in Boerne in 2027. That will take the number of Texas locations to 38.
The company recently announced that 15 new stores will go up in the United States between now and 2031.
