T-Mobile is finally introducing 36-month financing plans for new phones. Of course, that’s not what T-Mobile wants to focus on. The “Uncarrier” move they are promoting with today’s news is the fact that you can bundle the cost of the device, taxes, and fees into your financing plan. Giving you a true $0 down experience.
With most carriers, when you finance a phone, you pay nothing for the phone upfront, but you do have to pay all the taxes upfront and whatever other fees there are. This typically includes upgrade fees, which most people despise since you’re literally popping out a SIM card and popping it into another device. Now with EIP Flex 36, you can finance all of that, so you can walk out of T-Mobile with $0 down.
There is also EIP Standard 36, which is T-Mobile’s standard 0% APR for all, now available over 36 months instead of 24 months. Lowering your monthly payment. This is likely T-Mobile preparing for the inevitable price hikes from this Fall’s smartphone launches – including the new iPhone Ultra.
T-Mobile also introduces new Student Perks
T-Mobile is also finally paying attention to students and giving them freedom of their own wireless line for less. Now, students can get T-Mobile service for just $30/month with autopay, taxes and fees not included. That’s a 40% savings on a single line versus AT&T and Verizon. Students can also get an exclusive 5G Home Internet bundle that comes with a virtual prepaid card of up to $200.
These aren’t earth-shattering deals for students, but it is definitely a shot at the MVNOs that are offering unlimited data for a fraction of the postpaid carriers like T-Mobile. And likely a way to get students off of their parents’ family plan, which is how most students are able to afford their phone service.
