Remember the popular endless runner mobile game that came out in 2012, Subway Surfers? A game where you control a graffiti artist fleeing an inspector and his dog. Well, this is now getting a new extension. SYBO Games, the studio behind this widely downloaded game, has released a new title, dubbed Subway Surfers City. Since this is a new version, users will get additional gameplay, new in-game mechanics, an updated art style, and much more.
Subway Surfers City brings a new core environment, art style, and more
Subway Surfers City also brings an expanded core environment. The new game ditches the rotating World Tour format for a permanent, multi-district map called Subway City. At launch, there are four primary districts for players to unlock and navigate. These include: The Docks, Southline, Sunrise Blvd, and Delorean Park. SYBO intends to release seasonal updates to expand the game with new neighbourhoods, characters, outfits, and hoverboards.
Furthermore, the game also introduces many new in-game mechanics, including a “stomp” move to uncover hidden advantages and a bubblegum shield to enhance a character’s jumping abilities.
Available on Android and iOS
Subway Surfers City offers three distinct game modes to suit different playstyles. There’s the “Classic Endless,” which is the traditional, continuous running mode focused on exploring paths and achieving high scores. The “City Tour” is a level-based, finite game mode where players complete specific missions and locate hidden items to progress through the city’s districts.
Lastly, the “Events” mode is a rotating selection of finite runs and trials aimed at challenging advanced players. The Subway Surfers City game is now available on Android and iOS platforms. The game is free of cost, but there will be in-app purchases.
The original Subway Surfers game was launched in 2012 and reportedly has over 4.5 billion lifetime downloads as of 2025. It has remained in the top five mobile download charts annually since its release. It also currently maintains an average of 100 to 150 million monthly active players.
