Spotify has announced a new podcast ‘Membership’ feature, allowing users to support their favorite shows. For creators, it opens new ways to offer exclusive content and experiences to their fans on the platform. Podcast memberships offer them flexibility to shape what they offer. The feature was first previewed at Investor Day earlier this year and is now starting to roll out in 34 markets.
Spotify podcast memberships offer paid tiers and exclusive benefits
The feature works the same way as Patreon and other memberships. It lets hosts offer paid monthly tiers with exclusive perks while earning support from their audience. Spotify says it’ll let creators decide what their memberships include. They can include exclusive audio or video, bonus episodes, fewer ads, early access, access to a show’s archive, and more. Creators can also have multiple tiers and pricing options.
For Spotify users, signing up for podcast memberships is straightforward. Free and Premium users can find a show’s membership offerings on its Spotify show page. Members can also show badges when commenting on episodes, while creators can welcome them with special video clips.
Creators keep 90% of the revenue
Creators can reach potential members with tools like targeted promotions, free trials, and analytics to see what’s working. Spotify says it’ll help creators turn their existing audience into paying members. Creators can also export member data, including contact details from fans who agree to share them, making it easier to stay connected both on and off Spotify.
Shows launching Membership programs today include The Adam Friedland Show, Making Sense with Sam Harris, The Shawn Ryan Show, and Two Hot Takes, along with The Sculpt Society and 12 shows from YMH Studios. Creators get to keep 90% of the revenue generated by memberships.
Spotify podcast memberships are initially available in the US, the UK, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
