It seems that Spotify users are facing an annoying issue that won’t show Google Cast (Chromecast) devices in Connect, returning only a blank menu. This means if users try to start playback, Chromecast and Nest speakers are no longer present in the Spotify Connect menu. If you have been worried that there’s something wrong with your connectivity, well, don’t. It seems the issue is on Spotify’s side.
Annoying Spotify issue hides Chromecast devices from Connect
The issue first appeared on the Spotify community forum way back in 2024, with users intermittently facing the issue. However, complaints from users have surged in recent times on Reddit and even Spotify’s support threads. Reports note that the issue seems to be happening across all Spotify apps, not just Android. It’s also affecting different device types, including Nest speakers, Chromecast Audio, and more.
Thankfully, the issue has reached Spotify, which has acknowledged that there is an issue and said it’s aware of the problem where Google Cast/Chromecast devices won’t show up in Spotify Connect. The company says that the issue is “being looked into.” However, it has not provided a specific timeline for a fix at the moment.
The company is aware of the issue
Though Spotify acknowledged the issue, the root cause remains unclear. It seems the issue isn’t affecting other services, like YouTube Music and Tidal. They continue to recognize Cast devices. This signals that the problem could be specific to Spotify.
While we wait for Spotify to officially address this, users on the truespotify subreddit may have found a workaround. It seems that downgrading the Spotify app’s version to 9.1.40.1486 fixed the issue by bringing back full cast support. But then, not everyone can go through this process, so there’s no other choice but to wait for Spotify to fix this at its end.
