Sony is launching two new gaming headsets for the PlayStation platform called the Pulse and Pulse Edge, both of which expand on the popularity of the Pulse Elite that Sony launched back in 2024. Both headsets are wireless to make sure gamers can play untethered, and they feature the main component that made the Pulse Elite a standout option for the console over past PlayStation headsets, and that’s the planar magnetic drivers like what you get in the Audeze Maxwell 2.
The PlayStation Pulse and PlayStation Pulse Edge headsets feature a slightly different design than the Pulse Elite, which has an integrated and retractable mic, but many features of the older headset remain in these two new ones.

PlayStation Link is Sony’s new proprietary low-latency connection and it was introduced with the PlayStation Pulse Elite headset and PlayStation Pulse Explore earbuds. Now, Sony is also adding it to the latest Pulse headsets, making it possible to use both wirelessly with the PS5 and PlayStation Portal handheld. The headset can also be used with PC via an included USB adapter.
In terms of features, each headset is coming with AI noise rejection for clearer comms during chat in your games, but the microphones themselves differ just a little. For example, the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge both come with integrated mics. However, the Pulse only has the integrated mic, while the Pulse Edge has both it and a detachable boom mic for better clarity. It also comes with a carrying case.
The Pulse Edge also has 8 magnets per planar driver compared to the 4 magnets per planar driver on the Pulse, which Sony says delivers even richer, deeper bass while maintaining the precision and clarity that lets subtle details shine through. Sony hasn’t announced a price for either headset yet and it’s not going to announce the launch date or pre-order date until it gets closer to them.
