Sony is likely right on the cusp of releasing its next pair of wireless headphones following the WH-1000XM6, known as the 1000X The ColleXion according to leaked details, and new info now points to a release of these headphones this week, along with an official price point for consumers in the US, Europe, and the UK.
The price for the 1000X The ColleXion headphones has technically leaked before, but this new leak is a little more substantial in that it doesn’t just include price info, it also includes several new images both in the form of renders of the headphones and of marketing material that Sony is likely going to use on its product pages for them. Based on the image, and based on past leaks, these are a very premium pair of headphones from Sony, and basically pushes them into the luxury category among brands like Bang & Olufsen and similar high-end brands.
Leaked price info suggests the Sony 1000X The ColleXion headphones will cost $649
This is about what was expected as this price has been mentioned before as a possible cost. It’s popped up again and again, and that now makes it a little more believable in terms of cost. Judging by the new materials being used for the headphone design, and the new case that even looks more premium, this price seems about right, if a bit high when you consider what the WH-1000XM6 cost.
In the US, the headphones are said to cost $649, while they’ll be €629 in Europe, and £549 in the UK. Yes, this is a pretty expensive price for wireless headphones, but with the name and Sony’s now leaked marketing materials, it seems like Sony isn’t just trying to release a luxury pair of its extremely popular 1000X headphones. It’s making these more luxury and premium, but it’s also seemingly launching these as a pair of more high-end headphones for the collectors. Hence the name. It’s also expected that Sony will announce these on May 19 with a launch date that is either the same day or soon after.
The new headphone design uses a sliding metal headband with leather for the underside that rests against your head. It’s also said that the earpads are leather-wrapped. As reported by Notebookcheck, battery life is said to last up to 24 hours with ANC, and up to 32 hours without ANC. Sony’s familiar Quick Charge feature returns as well, giving you about 1.5 hours of playback time in just 5 minutes. The headphones do appear to get rid of the folding design that came back with the WH-1000XM6, but the new carrying case has a built-in carry handle which is kind of a nice touch.
