A rather interesting report has just surfaced in Korea. It seems like Samsung is having some problems with Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is turning out to be too hot for Samsung, and the company could swap it out.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 seems to be running a bit too hot for Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra
A report by the Seoul Economic Daily says that during the Galaxy S27 Ultra testing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 ran too hot again and again. It slowed down a bit too much when used for longer periods of time.
Samsung allegedly asked Qualcomm to fix that by mid-October, which is basically now. If Qualcomm is unable to deliver, Samsung will swap out the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with the Exynos 2700 in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
It is worth noting that mass production for the Galaxy S27 Ultra and its siblings is set to start by the end of this year. Also, we’re not sure what the case will be with the other members of the series.
Most reports that surfaced said that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be exclusive to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, while the other three phones were said to use both the best from Qualcomm and the Exynos 2700, depending on the region.
Samsung’s plans could change because of this
Those reports did vary from one another, so we don’t know what exactly Samsung planned initially. Those plans could change, though, if today’s report is to be believed. It seems like Qualcomm’s chip is running a bit too hot for Samsung’s liking.
As a reminder, the Exynos 2700 will also be a 2nm processor, and it has not been announced just yet. It’s coming soon, however. Samsung will likely present it before the Galaxy S27 series comes to life.
Speaking of which, the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to launch in Q1 2027. They’ll probably arrive in January or February.
