Galaxy smartphone owners expecting to download Android 17 this week will need to hold on a bit longer. After officially releasing the stable One UI 9 update for the Galaxy S26 series in South Korea, Samsung appears to have paused its international rollout plans.
Official press releases across regional channels originally promised a global launch starting on September 16, with broader markets set for September 21. However, as those dates passed without notifications reaching user devices outside Korea, tech outlets and eagle-eyed community members noticed quiet updates to official scheduling pages.
Shifting dates across regional newsrooms
The timeline changes became evident through repeated edits on Samsung’s official Thailand Newsroom, as reported by Tarun Vats. The regional press release initially listed September 21 as the launch date for the Galaxy S26 lineup, placing it a week ahead of planned updates for the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy Z Fold 7 on September 28.
Rather than sticking to that schedule, Samsung modified the listing to move the Galaxy S26 update back to September 28, grouping it alongside previous-generation flagships. Shortly after, on September 22, the company edited the page again, stripping out specific calendar dates entirely and replacing them with a general “within September 2026” window (via Android Authority).
What caused the last-minute pause?
Pulling back an established launch schedule after four months of public beta testing is certainly frustrating for users waiting on new software features. Samsung hasn’t provided an official explanation for the delay, leaving developers to speculate whether testing revealed last-minute bugs that needed fixing before hitting millions of international devices.
Staggered regional deployments are common in Android. However, a multi-week gap between the Korean release and global availability is larger than usual. It’s annoying to wait a few more days but it’s always better to have a clean build instead of dealing with unexpected battery drain, app crashes or performance hitches after updating.
