The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra was just announced, but that did not stop this Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra rumor from appearing. The information comes from Korea, and it has to do with the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra’s camera setup.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra may get a proper camera upgrade
According to the provided information, Samsung will finally bring a proper jump in camera hardware quality on the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra still has that tiny 10-megapixel telephoto camera, plus its other sensors are not exactly the latest and greatest.
According to this info, by meeco.kr, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra could match the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera setup. That means that a 200-megapixel main camera will be included, but with an HP6 sensor.
That tiny 10MP telephoto camera is tipped to become a thing of the past
Furthermore, the telephoto camera is said to get a major upgrade. From a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, it should jump to a 50-megapixel 5x periscope telephoto camera. Sony’s IMX854 sensor is rumored for that telephoto unit.
What about the Galaxy Z Fold 9? Well, that one could include the same 200-megapixel main camera with the HP6 sensor. It could offer in-sensor cropping to reach a solid 3x digital zoom. That basically hints at a missing dedicated (periscope) telephoto camera once again. So the Galaxy Z Fold 9 could include an ultrawide camera on the back yet again.
Samsung’s newly-announced foldables offer different camera setups
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra includes a 200-megapixel main camera, paired with a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a very old and small 10-megapixel telephoto camera sensor. Next year’s model could finally ditch that telephoto camera.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel main camera paired with a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. It did not include a (periscope) telephoto camera at all. That would arguably be a better choice over the ultrawide camera, but Samsung opted to go down this route.
