Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 now has an official chipset for the US model, as the company appears to have confirmed the chip model in its recent FCC filings for the phone. Samsung probably isn’t trying to tell the world what chipset the phone is using on the sly, or anything like that. It’s also not likely trying to hide this information by not listing the full model name and using the model number instead. Which is what the FCC filings are using.
Rather, it’s just that FCC filings and other regulatory paperwork tends to list the model numbers for everything. In any case, the phone’s chipset model number tells the whole story of what the US version is going to be using, and it’s probably not a surprise to anyone that has followed Samsung smartphones for the past decade.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 chip will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
For anyone who might have been fearing Samsung would use anything other than a current flagship Qualcomm chip for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, those fears can be put to rest. The company has now inadvertently confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is what will be used inside the phone. As per the FCC filing, the phone’s US model is listed as using the SM8850 chipset. Since there are other phones already available with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, it’s already known that SM8850 is its model number.
So, it isn’t really difficult to put together what’s powering the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in the US. This chip is also said to be used in the China model of the phone. Though, it won’t be used everywhere. Like always, Samsung will use its own in-house Exynos chips for certain variants of the device. It’s not clear yet which regions the Exynos models will be available, however.
