Samsung is reportedly working on a Galaxy Book model that runs off of Android and One UI as opposed to Windows 11, and it seems like it could end up being a sort of Chrome OS-style computing experience. Current Galaxy Book laptops run on Windows and are either powered by Intel chips with NVIDIA GPUs, or the Snapdragon X2 Elite chipset that emphasizes reasonable computing power but focuses a lot on improved battery life.
The switch to something that utilizes Android and One UI could help to further improve battery life. It’s also possible this could help make these laptops more affordable. The current state of devices that come with memory has reached a point where everything has gotten more expensive. While these laptops will still come with RAM and storage, chances are other components will be less expensive. That could make these Galaxy Book models less expensive overall than their Windows counterparts.
Samsung will use Android 17 for some of its new Galaxy Book models
According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung plans to release Galaxy Book models that will run on Android 17-based One UI 9. These will not be Chrome OS, but likely will provide a similar experience. It’s not mentioned when Samsung plans to launch these new laptops. But if they’re based on Android 17, it won’t be until Google officially announces Android 17’s stable launch.
Samsung is also rumored to be launching three different versions of this Android 17-based Galaxy Book. All of which will be set at different price points. One will target the entry-level price range, while Samsung will also offer a mid-range option and a more expensive flagship option. Much like the launch date, pricing is also unknown. Overall cost for each model will likely depend on the other components. That being said, they will also still likely cost a little more than if Samsung launched these over a year ago.
Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Book6 Edge. These may or may not be part of the same series.
