If you rely on the SmartThings app to keep tabs on your keys, luggage, or Galaxy SmartTags, you will need to adjust your mobile setup before November arrives. Samsung has officially confirmed plans to discontinue its integrated SmartThings Tracker service on October 31, 2026.
According to notices spotted inside the app by SamMobile, all location-checking features and real-time notifications for tracker devices will go dark on November 1, 2026. Samsung explained that the decision stems from an internal shift in its operational policies. The move is essentially a software cleanup effort to eliminate overlapping features across its mobile ecosystem, though.
Moving SmartTags to Samsung Find and losing iOS safety tools
The good news is that your physical tracking hardware is not turning into expensive plastic overnight. Android users can simply migrate over to the dedicated Samsung Find app. This tool already manages location tracking, battery alerts, and map updates for Galaxy SmartTags and connected third-party network devices.
However, the change impacts iPhone users a bit differently. On the iOS version of the SmartThings app, users will lose the handy option to scan for unknown nearby trackers. That tool previously allowed iPhone owners to detect unfamiliar Bluetooth tags traveling with them, but Samsung is dropping the feature completely as part of this policy update.
SmartThings refocuses on smart home automation and future tags
Losing location tracking tools inside SmartThings might feel like an annoying extra step. However, Samsung is clearly positioning the platform to focus on broader smart home management. SmartThings will continue expanding controls across Galaxy phones, smart TVs, refrigerators, washers, and lighting, with engineers actively developing spatial automation features to help home accessories react automatically to user routines.
