Samsung is currently preparing for a pretty big Summer launch, with at least three foldables and at least two wearables set to debut at Unpacked. We’ve already seen leaks that Unpacked will take place in London this year, and should introduce us to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. We could possibly get a few other products too, like the smart glasses, which Samsung and Google are calling “Intelligent Eyewear”, at Unpacked.
According to some marketing material, it looks like Samsung is positioning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 as “hero” products, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is more of an “optional” product. Basically, more confirmation that Samsung isn’t expecting the “Wide” foldable to be a big seller. And that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 will be the top sellers for Samsung, again this year.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide won’t be Samsung’s shiny new flagship
Many had expected that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide would be Samsung’s shiny new flagship, potentially grabbing the top spot from the Galaxy Z Fold 8. But it appears that Samsung is going to market it as an “optional” foldable, just another choice in its foldable lineup. They’re hedging their bets on this new passport-style foldable, which is something they should have done years ago.
It’s honestly pretty astounding to see Samsung go from launching foldables with very narrow cover displays that were almost unusable. Now launching a very wide cover display foldable, in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Of course, we know the reason for that is Apple, just like it was for Galaxy S25 Edge last year.
According to leaks from Korea, Samsung is planning to make only about 1 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide units. This confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide won’t be Samsung’s big flagship for the second half of the year. That’s not a ton of units, though it is considerably more than the Galaxy Z TriFold, so maybe you’ll be able to buy one.
But the hierarchy this year for Samsung foldables appears to be Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and then Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide below that. Interestingly, there’s been no talk about a Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE. Maybe Samsung learned its lesson from the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE last year.
