When Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 series, one of its standout camera additions was “Horizontal Lock.” This clever feature uses the phone’s gyroscope and accelerometer to keep your videos perfectly flat, even if you tilt, rotate, or spin the device a full 360 degrees. It essentially mimics the performance of an expensive physical gimbal. Now, Samsung is actively preparing to backport the S26’s Horizontal Lock camera feature to the Galaxy S25 series through the upcoming One UI 9 update.
Perfectly flat footage, no gimbal needed
The discovery was shared by tech tipster Fahad Ali Javed on X (via SammyFans). The post includes screenshots showing the “Horizontal Lock” option running within an internal, unreleased One UI 9 test build (DZG4) for the Galaxy S25+.
Once the update rolls out, users can access the tool by heading into the Camera app, switching to Video mode, tapping the Super Steady icon, and selecting the new “Horizontal Lock” setting. The software instantly balances any heavy rotational movement, ensuring the horizon remains completely level. It is a massive upgrade over standard optical image stabilization, turning chaotic, shaky action shots into incredibly smooth, cinematic footage.
Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the roll-out date for the stable release of One UI 9. However, this Android 17-based update is expected to debut alongside the company’s newest foldable smartphones very soon.
