While preparing for the One UI 9 rollout and working on One UI 9.5 behind the scenes, Samsung is also spending its days pushing the latest security updates to its wearables. After the Galaxy Watch 4 series, the company is now pushing the August 2026 security update to the Galaxy Watch 5. This just makes the smartwatches more secure than before instead of bringing new features to the table.
Galaxy Watch 5 gets more secure with Samsung’s August 2026 update
As always, the update is rolling out first in the company’s home soil, South Korea. But then it’ll expand to other global regions in the next few days/weeks. The update for the Galaxy Watch 5 (review) carries the firmware version R900XXS2DZG3. Meanwhile, that for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is R920XXS2DZG3. That said, these version numbers and the download size may vary depending on the region.
To update, or even to check if it’s available for your unit, open the Galaxy Wearable app and go to Watch Settings > Watch software update > Download and install. If it’s not available yet, checking constantly won’t speed up the rollout.
Fixes 56 security issues
Samsung’s August 2026 security update brings fixes for 56 security issues present in the previous version of the OS. That includes 38 fixes for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) disclosed by Google and 18 fixes for Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). Among the Google fixes, eight are marked critical-priority, and 30 are high-priority fixes. Samsung’s fixes include two high-priority fixes, 14 moderate-priority fixes, and two fixes with undisclosed priority levels.
Samsung usually rolls out security updates to its new models first and then gradually push to older models. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the August 2026 security patch. It offered it to the eligible older models first. Meanwhile, the new Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 are still waiting for it.
