According to a new report, select Samsung Galaxy S27 models will end up utilizing UFS 5.0 flash storage. The information comes from Lanzuk, aka yeux1122, a Korean tipster.
He claims that Samsung plans to equip only select models with faster storage due to rising memory prices and memory constraints. We find this whole rumor a bit odd, and for a good reason.
Select Galaxy S27 models could get a massive storage speed upgrade
In current-gen models, the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung is not using UFS 4.1 flash storage. The company opted for older UFS 4.0 storage. That goes for all models, actually, not even the Galaxy S26 Ultra is using UFS 4.1.
So, if this rumor ends up being accurate, Samsung will jump from UFS 4.0 to UFS 5.0. Considering that only some models will use it, however, others will get either UFS 4.0 or UFS 4.1, it remains to be seen.
UFS 5.0 is almost twice as fast as UFS 4.0. It offers maximum sequential read/write speeds up to 10.8GB, while UFS 4.0 can go up to 5.8GB.
Which models can we expect UFS 5.0 in, presuming the report is accurate? Well, likely in top-tier Galaxy S27 Ultra models, or perhaps all Ultra models. Top-tier Galaxy S27 Pro model(s) could also get it, who knows.
Memory configurations will remain (mostly) unchanged
The tipster also hinted that the base memory configuration will remain unchanged, for the most part. That means that the base Galaxy S27 unit could still stick with 128GB of storage, which will not be welcomed with joy by users.
The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will almost certainly start at 256GB. As a reminder, the Galaxy S27+ is expected not to arrive as part of the series, as the Galaxy S27 Pro is tipped to replace it.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is rumored to essentially be the Galaxy S27 Ultra, but without an S Pen. It remains to be seen how true that is. All three phones are expected to arrive in Q1 2027.
