Early Geekbench benchmarks for Samsung‘s upcoming budget phone, the Galaxy A18 LTE, have appeared online. They offer a detailed look at what to expect from the next entry in the popular A1x lineup. The test device (model number SM-A185G / SM-A185F) recorded a single-core score of around 744 and a multi-core score of approximately 2,064. The results reveal a curious hardware pairing that combines legacy specs with Samsung’s latest operating system.
Recycled processor and entry-level RAM
According to the benchmark details spotted by Alfaturk, the Galaxy A18 4G relies on MediaTek’s Helio G99 processor. This is the exact same 6nm chip used in last year’s Galaxy A17. Featuring two Cortex-A76 performance cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0 GHz alongside a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, the chipset delivers identical performance metrics to its predecessor.
The benchmark configuration also lists 4GB of RAM paired with 128GB of base storage. While 4GB of memory first became a smartphone standard back in 2015, global component shortages and rising manufacturing costs have kept it alive in the entry-level segment. Reusing the processor and memory layout allows Samsung to keep production costs down. Component pricing pressures could still drive the retail price slightly higher than previous generations, though.
Launching straight out of the box with Android 17
The most unexpected revelation from the Geekbench listing is the software version. The test unit was running Android 17 topped with Samsung’s One UI 9 firmware. This suggests that the Galaxy A18 could skip One UI 8.5 entirely and launch directly with the newest software experience, following flagship devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
Aside from the software bump, the device is expected to keep the familiar design language of the Galaxy A17. This includes a basic waterdrop notch, standard camera setup, and familiar battery capacity.
Samsung has not officially confirmed a release date. However, given that the Galaxy A17 debuted in September last year, an autumn release for the 4G model seems likely, with a 5G variant expected to follow early next year.
