Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is moving its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Plano, along with 1,000 employees. Employees were informed of the relocation last week. The move is expected to take place before the end of the year. The company has not yet said where in Plano the new headquarters will be.
The Dallas Business Journal reports the timing of the move was a surprise, given that the company recently completed a new 321,000-square-foot corporate campus in Englewood, New Jersey, less than a year ago.
Samsung already has a large presence in Central Texas. The company operates a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Austin and is investing billions of dollars in a new chipmaking facility in Taylor (photo).
Plano has had several corporate relocations recently. The city is already home to telecommunications giant Ericsson and soon will house AT&T’s new 2 million-square-foot campus, where the company plans to bring 10,000 jobs. It’s also home to major campuses for the likes of Toyota, Liberty Mutual, JPMorgan Chase, PepsiCo and Yum Brands
