
Samsung Display is at AWE 2026 this week. For those unaware of this trade show, it’s the Augmented World Expo, which is where you’ll find a lot of new AR, VR, XR, and MR products. In fact, the XREAL AURA is there, powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite.
Now Samsung Display is also there, showing new displays for these applications, specifically RGB OLEDoS. This is a single-panel design that is simpler to manufacture than competing microdisplay tech, which Samsung says gives it an edge in mass production and cost. Samsung Display also says that unlike white OLEDoS, RGB OLEDoS skips the color filter entirely, which boosts light efficiency and lifespan, making it better suited for compact, lightweight XR devices that need sharp image quality.
One of the interactive experiences Samsung Display has at AWE this week is called “The Big Dipper”, which is a dark-room installation where seven display panels are arranged to recreate the constellation, but only use Samsung’s 1.3-inch 40,000nit RGB OLEDoS panel. This creates a brightness contrast that shows off vivid colors and fine details.
I really can’t wait to see these RGB OLEDoS displays put to use in some new XR products, maybe a second-generation XREAL AURA or Samsung Galaxy XR?
Samsung Display is also showing a stretchable display, again
Samsung Display is once again showing off its stretchable display, which I first saw at CES last year. This display stays flat normally, but can physically protrude depending on the usage scenario. It’s a really wild concept, and it still sounds like they aren’t quite sure what customers are going to use this type of display for.
The company is also showing off another concept: a glass-free Light Field that displays a 3D rendering of Dabotap, a historic stone pagoda at Bulguksa Temple, which shifts as viewers change their angle.
