The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 isn’t far off from an official reveal and while most people wait to see what models Samsung has in store for users this year, and it seems that there may actually end up being three different models. Samsung usually only releases two different watch models. In most cases it’s been a regular model and a Classic model. The Galaxy Watch 5 series replaced the Classic model with the Pro model. Then with the Galaxy Watch 7 Series came the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The current series, the Galaxy Watch 8, has gone back to the Galaxy Watch Classic. So, Samsung is sort of weaving its way through a cycle that swaps things in and out, save for the Pro which is likely going to stay the Ultra model from here on out. This year, you’d expect things to go with just the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. But that might not be the case.
The Galaxy Watch 9 models will include the Galaxy Watch 9, 9 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2
According to a new report from Android Authority, Samsung is looking to launch the Galaxy Watch 9 and two other models this year. The other two will likely be the Galaxy Watch 9 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
This comes down to internal codename references for these new watches found in the code of the latest Wear OS app update. While looking through things, they noticed that there were references to “fresh9, wise9, and projectv2.” For those unaware, fresh8 was the codename for the Galaxy Watch 8, wise8 was the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and projectx2 was the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
So the theory here is that these are all the new models of those watches, thus the Galaxy Watch 9 series. This isn’t confirmation, of course. But it’s a pretty likely outcome. The report also suggests that Samsung may be tinkering with a Raise To Talk feature like the one that’s available on the Pixel Watch 4.
